All candidates due for NYSC programme may do their registration online (Not sure of whether pre-registration will be available for NYSC Batch A, 2013). This if done in this batch will reduce the cumbersome nature of registrations at NYSC orientation camps. However, note that even if registration is done online, some form of registration may still be done in camp so make sure to go to the NYSC orientation camp with your full credentials. Foreign based candidates must visit NYSC Headquarters at Abuja personally for registration. With an eNYSC scratch card priced at N250 prospective NYSC corps members can gain access to the authorized NYSC pre-registration websites. You will need the callup number on the NYSC preliminary list for the online registration. The Prelim List can be viewed online.

NYSC Batch B 2012, Batch C, 2012, and Batch A, 2012 are currently on primary assignment. The next batch due for service is NYSC Batch A, 2013 and will be going for camping from March 5, 2013.

Depending on the procedure chosen by NYSC, pre-registration for NYSC orientation may be done on the internet (if allowed for this batch) at the following NYSC websites. You will need your callup number from the NYSC preliminary list to do the online registration However, NYSC may not allow pre-regsitration for this batch. Here are the links to follow for your NYSC pre-registration:
If pre-registration is allowed, NYSC eNYSC scratch cards can be purchased at all NYSC State secretariats and all Afribank (now MainStreet Bank) branches in Nigeria at N250 only.

Currently on service are NYSC Batch B, 2012, NYSC Batch C, 2012 and NYSC Batch A, 2012. The next Batch for NYSC will be NYSC Batch A, 2013. The NYSC 2013 Batch A orientation commences March 5, 2013.

Prospective NYSC corps members may also require another scratch card to fill the book of life, which is a database containing details of every NYSC corps member. You may be required to complete both the NYSC pre-registration and book of life, before NYSC orientation camping. Both NYSC scratch cards can be acquired at all NYSC Secretariats and all AfriBank branches nationwide.

Before registration, we recommend you read the NYSC Registration frequently asked questions page. This will give you most of the information you need for a hassle free NYSC registration. It will also reduce the possibility of mistakes.

Visit NYSC website at nysc.gov.ng for more information.

We wish all successful members of NYSC Batch A 2012 success as they move into the real world. Good luck as you grab your dream job. We hope you still have some of your motivation left.

Here is brief about NYSC, read it to know what to expect.

But, What is NYSC?

NYSC was created to foster unity among Nigeria’s about 250 ethnic groups and to create a sense of nationhood and selfless service among young people. There use to be two NYSC batches, namely batch A and batch B. However, with so many graduates waiting for NYSC call up, NYSC now have three batches, batch A, batch B, and batch C.

The NYSC programmes runs for about 12 months and during that period, graduates of Universities and Polytechnic are deployed to serve in states that are not their state of origin. NYSC allowance currently stands at about N19,800, although there are seruios moves to increase it.

The NYSC programme is divided into four main stages namely:

NYSC Orientation:

NYSC corps members are camped for three weeks in an NYSC orientation camp where they live a military-like regimented life. Events at NYSC camps include parades, Man ‘O’ War activities, and drills (every morning), Lectures on different topics like Entrepreneurship, Job search tips, Self employment, National security, Road safety, Fire fighting, HIV/Aids, Environmental issues, MDGs, NYSC aims, and so on are organised at the NYSC orientation camps for corps members. At NYSC orientation camp, corps members are divided into different groups called Platoons. These platoons compete against each other in activities like sports, dance, drama, beauty pageants, and so on.

There is also an endurance race usually towards the end of NYSC orientation camping so that most corps members will be fit for the race. A campfire night party is also part of the NYSC orientation programme. NYSC orientation begins with an induction and ends with a winding down parade ceremony. At the winding down ceremony, NYSC corps members will be given posting letters to their places of primary assignment. NYSC Camping is generally fun.

Primary Assignment:

After the fun in camp, NYSC corps members will now face the challenges of everyday Nigeria. During Primary assignment, NYSC corps members are posted to organisations to work for about 10 months. Most corps members are posted to schools where they are expected to help in providing teaching services.

The major challenge NYSC corps members face is rejections. Most organisations reject corps members posted to them. The next is accommodation, immediately followed by financial difficulties, especially in the early days of settling down.

NYSC primary assignment takes place simultaneously with NYSC community development service (CDS)

Community Development Service, NYSC CDS:

CDS is at the core of the NYSC scheme, each corps member is expected to belong to an NYSC CD group. During CD, NYSC corps members use their skills in selfless service of communities in which they are deployed.

NYSC corps members usually focus their CDS on some challenging issues in their community of deployment some include Adult literacy; Charity visits to hospitals, prisons, old people’s homes and children homes; Sanitation; construction/provision of basic infrastructure; and so on.

Passing out ceremony:

Passing out ceremony is the last stage of the NYSC scheme. This consists of one or two weeks of events, which ends with a passing out parade. Events usually take the format of lectures on some topics similar to the one at the NYSC orientation camps but focus is on preparing NYSC corps members for the challenges they will face in Nigeria.

Lectures focus on issues like NAPEP, NDE, Self-employment, Entrepreneurship, preparing winning CVs/resumes, Tips on Job interviews, and such related topics. NYSC secretariats use this period to study experiences of corps members with the scheme.

NYSC corps members (mostly those posted in state capitals) also practice for the passing out parade during this period. After passing out parade, NYSC discharge certificate is issued to successful corps member. For all successful NYSC corps members a chapter has just ended and a new chapter is about to begin.

Challenges facing NYSC

However, NYSC currently face many challenges, some of which include underfunding, large number of graduates above what was anticipated by founders of the programme, and rejection of NYSC corps members on primary assignment.

The biggest challenge for NYSC today is what happens to the thousands of graduates that pass out of NYSC programme each year. It is not right for government to allow those who have served this country meritoriously to languish in the hopeless job markets of Nigeria.

The federal government should create social welfare schemes for passed-out NYSC corps members, and pay current corps members even better allowances. NYSC should also be restructured to reflect today’s reality.

Security has also become a major issue in the past few years with a couple of NYSC corps members victims of religious and tribal crisis as well terrorist attacks and kidnapping.

Pre-registration for NYSC orientation can be done on the internet at the NYSC website:
Locations of NYSC camps may also be found at these websites. You may also find NYSC schedule for the different batches on the NYSC programmes like Batch C 2011, Batch B, 2012, and Batch A, 2012. NYSC Batch C 2012 orientation will run from November 6 to November 27, 2012.

Good day my fellow Past, Present & Prospective Gentlemen Corpers. Honestly I must confess that I'm seeing this site for the first time and it's quite interesting to note how passionate, informed and disinformed most of US are as per NYSC Activities. First, I support in entireity, the Unanimous call for increase in the meagre #9,775 Allowee! I also appreciate the Site Hosts, Passyjango & all contributors. However, pls, let's respect the way we address the FG & DG NYSC as this is a Website and open to the international community. Also, let's appreciate the NYSC Aims & Objectives. Lastly, pls I'm not trying to sound Academic as I also respect the possibilities of human mistakes & typographical errors which I may also have done in this write-up or at sometimes. Pls with the exception of short slangs(Ur, b4, l8r, etc), let's be mindful of our use of Words, Sentences, Spellings, etc, as GRADUATES! Thanks for "Ur" Understanding. M. Lesley is a Corp Member in FCT, Abuja-2010 Batch A. Weee O!

Hi guys!!! Wow,it's really cool to know that I have a lot of people joining in silent prayer for increased allowee for prospective corpers. The blessing go carry o!

If U are going for service for service this July, you are supposed to have known by now, the preliminary list for batch b, 2010 was displayed at various institutions a few weeks ago. As for registering online if the scratch card is available, then you can register, but you may also require to know the state you are deployed to.

The online form requires one to fill in the call up no so does it mean that you will wait till the collection of call up no?

Well i think d NYSC are also federal civil servant, pls,d althority shd make sure they increase d alawee as d civil servant are expecting their salary increase by july.gd luck.

The call up no comes with your call up letter, so it means that you will wait for the call up letter b4 filling the form. Callup number is a ten digit number derived from your preliminary list or Callup letter. e.g. if your callup ID is NYSC/OAU/2009/123456 then your callup number is 2009123456.

We actually hope the alawee be increased to alleviate the troubles the NYSC members. But whether they increased it or not, my advice is that every corp member should make good use of the one year to be financially wise. Get some good books now to learn how to do somethings to help urself.

The situation at present concerning the nysc alawee is pathetic brother. I am an advocate of 'corp members don't depend on your alawee'. Fight for your own financial freedom. Get good books that treat 'how to make money on your own'. You can get one of such book at www.wealthcorpers.blogspot.com, you can check out now. Be financial Intelligence brother, don't depend on nysc alawee for it is but a meager even if it is increased.

We all just have to create wealth legitimately for ourselves during NYSC year; can government increase the allowance to about 50,000 naira per month? 'i seriously doubt it'. Some of us are given nothing less than 30,000 naira as monthly allowance by our parents, how will such persons cope with just about thirty percent of what he or she used to have? for a whole year- it will only take a conscience won over by CHRIST not to venture into dubious affairs to get money.

THE Director-Genral of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga, has assured that the Federal Government will look into better welfare and security for corps members posted to various states of the country.

The NYSC boss, speaking with journalists after the opening ceremony of the NYSC 2010 Batch “B” pre-orientation course workshop which was held on Wednesday at Maiduguri International Hotel, Borno State, on the need for increase in corps members allowances, assured that whatever he took to the president, in terms of welfare and security, would be looked into.

“When I observed this issue of welfare particularly, I wrote a letter to Salary and Wages Commission. I wrote a letter to them and not only the letter, I recommended that corps members’ allowances should be looked at, as Grade Level 7, Step 1, which is equivalent to about N28,000 to N29,000.

“I am assuring you that by the special grace of God, as the federal workers are getting increase in their salaries and allowances, the corps members are also going to gain more than even the workers,” he said.

The state governor, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, also promised to improve on the welfare of corps members posted to various councils in the state.

Governor Sheriff said during his tour of the 27 local government areas of the state, he observed that corps members were doing well in their places of assignments, adding that he saw them everywhere, rendering services to the people in their locality.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Ambassador Baba Jidda, at the workshop, said the corps members deserved the best in return for their service in the state.

Governor Sheriff said he would continue to appreciate the achievements of the scheme in the state, while he also called on the Federal Government to reposition the scheme by ensuring better remuneration or allowances for corps members.

Whats the point of increased wages if innocent girls are ra'ped to death for wearing trousers by those who feel that women are second class humans? Security is more important; it is an urgent matter that needs to be addressed by more than just the odd, vague reference.

Yes if your name is not on the prelim list, then no service for you. Normally if you have no problem with your results you should serve, but some schools have more graduates qualifying for service than their NYSC quota. So they have to send them out in bits. I guess that is the case with your school. But you should confirm with students affairs.

laugh won kill me die. una too much 4 dis site sef. Anyway, i love what this site portrays by offering us(youth corpers), an anonymous venue to air our thoughts. Seriously, the DG of NYSC knows that #9,500 is not enough to cater to our needs monthly, which brings us to the main issue on ground.
IS HE READY TO DO THE RIGHT THING BY INCREASING OUR ALLOWANCE?
Well I as a person prays he is.

May God bless you all. Bukky.

The batch C correction list sent to UNIBEN had a lot of errors with many students placed on exemption. This was corrected at the school, but i would like to know how possible it is for this students to make batch C.

The purpose of the correction list is to allow students to correct errors. So NYSC will note changes when they receive the list.

its realy not fair that federal govt up till now still allow coppers to be receiving $63 with all the vast assignment facing them. i just want to appeal to the federal govt to look into the issue and see how they can improve on that. UKOHA

@passyjango...thnx for ur comment.i read on this blog of someone who was placed on exemption and had to wait for the next batch.Dnt knw hw sure it is for those on the exemption list in UNIBEN to make batch C.

I guess, we just have to wait and see. But it will be unfair if they will have to wait for another batch. That then defeats the purpose of displaying the correction list in the first place.
