The Design
The Apple flagship, iPhone 6, or more specifically the iPhone 6 Plus, will likely come to mind on sighting the Meizu MX5. The devices look somewhat similar, particularly when you consider the Home button which doubles as a fingerprint scanner as well as the curved corners.
The 7.6mm thin phone flaunts an aluminium body and is available in four colours, namely: gold, silver, black-silver and gray. The bevelled edges of the handset call to mind another Apple product, the iPad Air. The Meizu MX5 weighs a manageable 149 grams.
Display and Camera
The Meizu MX5 sports a large 5.5-inch display, which puts it in the phablet category. The screen, which supposedly has a high 10,000:1 contrast ratio, features Full HD resolution and looks capable of delivering a really pleasurable viewing experience.
On the camera front, the Meizu MX5 also does well for itself. It packs an impressive 20.7-megapixel main camera, which dwarfs the snapper on the iPhone 6. The camera has a six-element lens, dual-tone flash and laser-assisted focusing, similar to the one on the LG G4. There is also a 5-megapixel, wide-angle shooter on the front for taking amazing selfies.
Hardware and Software
Powered by a MediaTek Helio X10 turbo processor, the Meizu MX5 is decked out for solid performance. The 64-bit, octa-core chip runs at an impressive speed of up to 2.2 GHz and is supported by ample RAM of 3GB capacity, higher than the iPhone 6’s.
The phone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, which has Meizu’s Flyme 4.5 user interface running on top of it.
The Meizu MX5 comes in three storage versions: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. It supports 4G LTE connectivity for blazing fast connection speeds and is accompanied by a powerful 3150mAh battery. The phone has two SIM card slots and both support 4G LTE.
