Nokia 500 is Nokia’s first 1GHz Symbian smartphone and the lightest Symbian^3 phone so far. Despite having a 1GHz processor and some cool features, the Nokia 500 is nicely priced at 150 Euros before taxes and subsidies (N33,000). Nokia 500 features Symbian Anna, 3.2-inch touchscreen, 5.0MP camera, 2GB built-in memory with up to 32GB memory card support, GPS with Nokia Ovi Maps, swappable back covers (three colours), Wi-Fi, push email, instant messaging, and social media support.
1GHz fast Processor with colourful back covers
The Nokia 500 is the second Nokia phone, behind Nokia N9 MeeGo phone, to feature a 1GHz processor, but the first Symbian phone to boast of such a fast processor. With such a fast processor and a 256MB RAM, Nokia 500 promises fast performance with multitasking. However, Nokia 500 has no separate 2D/3D Graphics processing unit, which could result in just a marginal improvement in performance over current Nokia Symbian offering especially in media demanding applications.
Nokia 500 features Symbian Anna, an updated Symbian^3 OS. Symbian Anna comes with a number of improvements like an improved user interface, a faster browser, multiple customisable homescreens, improved social media support, improved multitasking, better instant messaging, email enhancements, and the latest Nokia Ovi Maps.
Nokia 500 offers three customisable homescreens, one for message updates, the other for social media updates, and the third for your favourite apps and games. It comes with two additional back covers in the box, enabling you choose the cover that perfectly expresses your current mood.
Display & Camera
Nokia 500 features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with multitouch feature. The display promises great HD viewing offering 16:9 nHD (640 x 360 pixels) resolution and 16.7 million colours depth. It features a 5 mega pixel camera with VGA video recording. The camera features full focus and geo-tagging, but lacks a flash. Nokia 500 features Video Call, Video Editor
Video Player, Video Sharing, and Video Streaming.
Network, Data, and Internet browsing
Nokia 500 features quadband GSM and pentaband WCDMA (3G). It supports high-speed data on HSDPA/HSUPA/UMTS (up to 14.4 Mbps). Outside 3G coverage the Nokia 500 supports GSM with data services on GPRS and EDGE. It supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g for connecting over WLAN networks.
Nokia 500 supports Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR for short-range wireless connectivity. Users can transfer files from/to their computer wirelessly via Bluetooth as well as share content wirelessly with other Bluetooth enabled devices. Nokia 500 also features microUSB 2.0. It has a built-in modem, which means you can connect their computer to the internet with their phone via Bluetooth or USB.
