Orange Klif Launches Firefox OS in Africa

Firefox OS will be making its debut in Africa soon, thanks to a partnership between Mozilla and Telecoms gaint Orange. The announcement was made during the launch of the Klif, the super-cheap Firefox phone that will be bringing new OS to Africa, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Orange Klif Firefox Phone

The Orange Klif will be launched initially in 13 countries (most of which are in Africa) for just $40 (8,000 NGN) including with free 6-months of voice, text messages, and data (free 500MB per month). This is an amazing deal, if you consider the 6-month package that comes with it.

The Orange Klif will go on sale in the second quarter of 2015 and will be available in Egypt, Senegal, Tunisia, Cameroon, Botswana, Madagascar, Mali, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Niger, Kenya, Mauritius and Vanuatu.

Firefox phones are targeted at the very lowend of the smartphone market and currently come at prices that Android can’t. The Orange Klif is no different it offers a modest specs with a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 320 x 480 pixels resolution and a 2 megapixels camera.

It is powered by a 1GHz processor with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of built-in storage.
