Research in Motion RIM makers of BlackBerry phones has announced the availability of its Mobile Fusion service, which will allow enterprise IT administrators easily manage smartphones and tablets across multiple platforms. BlackBerry Mobile Fusion will allow IT people to manage enterprise devices running BlackBerry as well as iOS and Android devices with the same infrastructure.

RIM announced that BlackBerry Mobile Fusion is available for free download with license starting at $99 per user or $4 per user per month. To entice enterprise customers, RIM is even throwing in a 60-day free trial.

Mobile Fusion is a good strategy

RIM has already made it clear that it no longer considers itself in direct competition with Android and iOS. Although RIM promised not to completely ignore the consumer market for BlackBerry Phones, the company intends to focus on its strength in the enterprise market and BlackBerry Mobile Fusion I believe is a key part of that strategy.

If BlackBerry Mobile Fusion catches on it may become a cash cow for RIM as businesses may prefer to upgrade their existing RIM infrastructure to support newer devices in the enterprise environment like those running Android and iOS.

BlackBerry mobile fusion could also help RIM future proof its core enterprise business. RIM is already known for offering secure and versatile enterprise solutions, throwing in support for multiple platforms can make its enterprise offerings more compelling and make it more difficult for new entrants like Apple to break in as businesses are more likely to prefer a unified enterprise solution than exclusive solutions.

So, I think the idea behind BlackBerry mobile fusion is a good one. What do you think?
