Nokia 1200 comes with the multi-phonebook feature. This feature allows multiple users to have separate phonebooks on a mobile phone, with each phonebook visible only when activated by a particular user.
Nokia 1200 is a cheap, entry-level mobile phone designed with the emerging markets in mind. It is designed to make sharing of a mobile phone easy and convenient. Mobile phone sharing is a need in emerging markets, were a whole family could share a single handset.
The multi-phonebook is one feature of Nokia 1200 that makes phone sharing easy and convenient. It supports up to five phonebooks.
Activating the feature is easy, simply select Menu > Contacts > Settings > Multi-Phonebook > Multi-Phonebook style. Then change the style from normal to Multi-phonebook. Once this is, done users can start creating separate phonebooks. Note however, that Nokia 1200, multi-phonebook feature does not support contacts stored in the SIM.
Only contacts saved in the handset’s memory are supported. Hence, you must first save a contact in the handset’s memory before creating a phonebook. Note also that if you try adding a contact saved in the SIM into a separate phonebook the handset will request your permission to move that contact into memory. If you select ‘OK’, the contact will be moved automatically.
To add contacts to a phonebook, select, Menu > Contacts > Settings > Multi-Phonebook > Manage contacts. At this point, the contact list will appear on the display, select any contact you wish to add to the phonebook. If the contact is stored in the SIM, the handset will prompt you to make name to memory.
If you select ‘OK’, the contact is automatically moved to memory. Then mark the phonebook(s) that you wish to add the contact. Then select ‘done’. Finally, select ‘Yes’ on the prompt. The contact is added and you are taken back to the contact list. Select another contact and repeat the process until you are done.
Note that a contact can be added to more than one phonebook. Also note that contacts added to the shared contacts list are available to all users. Contacts stored in the SIM are also available in all phonebooks. Before a contact can be assigned to one of the multiple phonebooks, it must first be saved in the main or shared contact list.
To activate a particular phonebook select Menu > Contacts > Settings > Multi-Phonebook > Current phonebook. You can then select any of the six; the shared contact contains contacts that should be used by all users. Once a phonebook is selected only contacts included in it will be visible to users.
For easy management of the phonebooks, Nokia 1200 enables users to rename phonebooks. This will enable users to use their name or nickname in creating their contact list. This will make each list easy to distinguish.
To rename a phonebook select, Menu > Contacts > Settings > Multi-Phonebook > Rename phonebooks. Then select the phonebook you want to rename. Edit the name as required and select ‘OK’.
