The Design
DJI Phantom 4 Pro features a similar design as the standard model. It is essentially a quadcopter with four propeller blades each attached to a brushless motor. You actually get eight propeller blades in the box leaving four spare blades.
The camera is attached to the bottom of the drone via a 3-axis gimbal. The camera can pitch 30 degrees up and 90 degrees down from the rest position as well as roll and yaw.
DJI Phantom 4 Pro comes with a remote that offers an option of a built-in 5.5-inch full HD monitor. The display is brighter than your average smartphone display, which could result in a better experience. You can also buy the drone with a remote without the built-in display. You will then have to attach your smartphone or tablet to the controller.
DJI Phantom 4 Pro now has more sensors for improved obstacle avoidance. While the Phantom 4 offers two high-resolution stereo vision sensors in the front, the Pro model adds another two to the back for better obstacle sensing.
You also get a vision sensor on the bottom and infrared sensors on the left and right sides. This sensors combine to give you five-directions of obstacle sensing and four-directions of obstacle avoidance.
The Camera and Storage
DJI Phantom 4 Pro quadcopter has a 20 megapixels camera. It has a 1-inch CMOS sensor and records video up to Cinematic 4K and 4K videos at 60 frames per second. In burst mode, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro can take up to 14 photos per second.
The camera adds a mechanical shutter, the first from DJI. DJI Phantom 4 Pro comes with a 16GB microSD memory card included with support for up to 128GB card.
Flying the Drone
The DJI Phantom 4 Pro supports up to 30 minutes of flight. There are various flight modes available for you to choose from. With the ActiveTrack mode the drone recognises and follows a subject. It captures aerial footage of the subject. This is the perfect mode for taking selfies.
DJI Phantom 4 Pro supports a Draw mode that allows you draw a path for the drone to follow. The quadcopter supports 6-axis gyroscope as well as GPS and GLONASS. The remote transmitter operates at both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. It can automatically tune from one to another depending on the level of noise.
