The Tecno Camon 18 is yet another smartphone that once again confirms Tecno’s ability to dish out a better Camon smartphone. It takes off from where the Camon 17 stopped. As a successor, it offers a higher refresh rate display, an improved processor and more. This article stretches through it’s specs and price in a move to help you make your purchase decision.

Design and Display

The Tecno Camon series has been home to a plethora of Tecno’s well designed smartphones and the Tecno Camon 18 isn’t an exception. As Tecno is once again offering a very appealing design.

How different is this design from what we got on its predecessor? Well Tecno made a substantial effort in my opinion, shedding off some of the elements that ties it to outdated design.

Taking off with the rear, we will find a gradient design, on which you will find a camera module that happens to be more conspicuous than the one on the Camon 17. What’s more, you will notice the absence of the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Tecno has moved on to employing the use of a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Moving upfront, we find a 6.8-inch display, which is slightly bigger than the 6.6-inch display on the Camon 17. Tecno moved the punch hole camera from top left corner to the top middle corner, which is pretty much a neater rendition in my opinion.

The Tecno Camon 18 comes in four colour options and they include Dusk Gray, Ceramic White and Iris purple.

The Cameras

As far as numbers go, the Tecno Camon 18 cameras aren’t different from the offerings on the Camon 17. However, in the real world numbers do not offer the final say, as there are a lot that goes into offering better images, with the software being a big player.

On the rear, we have a 48MP primary camera with an aperture of f/1.8, a 2MP macro camera with an aperture of f/2.4 and a 2MP depth camera with an aperture of f/2.4. Video recording on this setup is capped at 1080 @ 30fps.

Moving upfront, we have a single 16MP selfie camera which is capable of recording videos up to 1080p @ 30fps.

Hardware and Software

On the performance side, the Tecno Camon 18 runs on the MediaTek Helio G88 processor, in place of the Helio G85 processor as seen on the Camon 17.

The processor in addition to the absence of a 6GB option has to be the only difference as far as performance goes. We still have a 4GB RAM, 128GB, a non-removable 5000mAh battery and 18W fast charging.

On the software side, the Tecno Camon 18 runs the HIOS 8.0 user interface ontop of the Android 11 operating system.

The Tecno Camon 18 features a USB type-c port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth and WiFi.

The Internet connection here is capped at 4G, which means enthusiasts won’t get the luxury of 5G speeds.

Tecno Camon 18 price in Nigeria starts at around 109,900 Naira at leading online stores in the country. The Camon Costs around 20,900 KES in Kenya.

The Tecno Camon 18 was announced on October May 4th, 2021 and its expected to go on sale later in October.
