Nigeria continues to face a severe clean water crisis, with an estimated 179 million people lacking access to safely managed drinking water. Only about 10% of the population has access to basic water and sanitation facilities, leading to widespread health and hygiene challenges across the country.
Recognizing this urgent need, Cardsoon, a reputable and community-driven gift card trading platform, has launched a new initiative, “One Well One Hope.” The program aims to provide sustainable access to clean water in underserved communities, beginning with its first successful project in Isiwu, Ikorodu, a community in Lagos State facing acute water scarcity.
Project Overview
Cardsoon’s team commissioned a mechanized well in Isiwu to deliver safe, reliable, and easily accessible water to local households. The project directly addresses the community’s long-standing dependence on untreated water sold by private vendors and shallow, often contaminated wells.
Location: Isiwu, Ikorodu (Lagos State)
Community population: ~30,000 residents
Coverage: 300+ households within 1 km of the project site
Previous water source: Untreated vendor-supplied and shallow well water
Average household water use: ~27 liters per day
Groundwater quality (before): WQI 50–67 (poor)
Time spent fetching water: 2–3 hours daily
Project Impact
| Indicator | Before Project | After Project | Result |
| Access to potable water | 0% within 1 km | 100% within 1 km | Centralized clean water access |

Community Significance
The “One Well One Hope” initiative has brought meaningful change to the people of Isiwu. Families now have direct access to clean, safe drinking water within walking distance.
Women and children, who previously spent hours fetching water, can now dedicate that time to education, work, and family life. Moreover, improved water quality reduces the prevalence of waterborne diseases, enhancing overall community wellbeing.
Looking Ahead
Cardsoon’s journey with One Well One Hope is only the beginning. By 2026, we aim to reach more underserved communities across Nigeria, ensuring that countless families have sustainable access to clean and safe water.
Our mission goes beyond digging wells; it’s about restoring hope, dignity, and health where they’re needed most. As we continue, we’ll work closely with local leaders to identify the most water-scarce communities and bring lasting solutions right to their doorstep.
