CISA is a programme for assessing and certifying professionals working in the Information Systems (IS) environments, namely audit, control, and security. For more information on CISA, visit www.isaca.org

Before you can add the CISA designation, you must meet the following requirements:

Pass the CISA Examination with 75% or above
Adhere to the CISA professional ethics in the exam guide
Provide evidence of five years of experience in any or all IS areas

Note that not having the five years of experience will not stop you from taking the Exam; however, you are not qualified to use the CISA designation if you do not meet all requirements.

The examination will test your ability to perform an IS audit. Questions are based on the most current development in the profession.

If you work in or plan to work in the computer audit or computer security environment, the CISA certification will give you an edge in securing and retaining jobs in the IS audit environment.

This opportunity is available to:

  • Accountants
  • Auditors
  • IT Professionals
  • Fresh graduates

You must also have a knack for IS audit, control, and security. Lecture fees range from N55,000 to N70,000.

Training centres listed here can prepare you for success in the CISA Examination. Some of these training centres also offer preparatory lessons for other IS certifications like the Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) and the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).

CISSP preparatory lecture costs about 120,000 Naira, and CISM costs the same as CISA in Nigeria. The CISSP exam is coming up in November 2008, while the CISM exams will come up later in December.

They may also help your accountants meet up with the recently introduced Technology Competence Initiative (TCI). TCI is now a requirement for becoming a chartered accountant under ICAN. TCI is aimed at ensuring that all chartered accountants get the required IT skills that will make them more relevant to the economy.
