Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is an entry-level smartphone, for the latest flagship phone from Samsung, look for the Samsung Galaxy S24.

The Display

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime retains the 5-inch display of the first generation Grand, but Samsung has increased the display resolution from 800 x 480 pixels (Galaxy Grand; pixel density: 187ppi) to a quarter HD (or qHD, for short) resolution of 540 x 960 pixels (pixel density: 220ppi). Samsung’s decision to maintain screen size while increasing pixel density is a smart one.

Samsung went with a thin-film transistor TFT display in the original Galaxy Grand, and this hasn’t changed in the new Galaxy Grand Prime.

Processor and Memory

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime comes with Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor. The new improved processor offers better graphics, multitasking, and speed in the Galaxy Grand Prime that is unmatched by the original Galaxy Grand as well as its successors.

The RAM and internal storage remain the same with the Galaxy Grand Prime as they were with the original Galaxy Grand: you get 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. At the same time, however, Samsung is the king of microSD card slots.

You still get that option with the Galaxy Grand Prime, which should be sufficient for photos and documents. Keep in mind, however, that most apps you download to your phone won’t be allowed the right to move to your microSD card – so you may want to save your local storage on the device (all 8GBs) for apps.

The Cameras

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime has upped the front camera to 5 megapixels making it great for taking selfies, but retains the 8 megapixels camera on the back, which is okay for a mid-range.

The Battery

The original Galaxy Grand came with a 2100mAh battery, and Samsung promised 10 hours of talk time and up to 46 hours of music playback. With the new Galaxy Grand Prime, Samsung has also turned things up a notch with a 2,600mAh battery that can produce up to 17 hours of talk time and up to 75 hours of music and audio playback, which is the same offering of the Galaxy Grand 2.
