Design
The Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus sports the same design as the Fire HD 8 which looks significantly more modern than the model from 2018. It is made of a plastic body with more rounded corners and thick bezels around the screen which gives it a cleaner, neater look.
The front camera has been moved from the top of the device to the side, making landscape orientation the default for video chatting. Plus, the new camera position also makes it much easier to use the Fire 8 HD Plus as if it was an Echo Show smart display.
The HD 8 Plus works with a matching gray plastic dock although, it is sold separately, which can prop the tablet up in a comfortable horizontal or vertical position. This dock becomes a key part of the tablet’s life as a quasi-Echo Show, sitting on your kitchen counter or by your bedside to give you the news, show recipes, or control your smart home throughout the day.
On the right side of the tablet, there is a USB-C charging port, headphones socket, power, and volume buttons. The MicroSD card slot is in the bottom right corner.
