Vivo Y12s

Design and Display

Taking a first glance at the Vivo Y12s design, my first impressions bends in the direction of a more appealing design. The changes made make for a more aesthetically appealing smartphone in my opinion.

Perusing the rear setup, I you will find that Vivo ditched the rear mounted fingerprint sensor as seen on the standard Y12s and employed a side mounted fingerprint sensor instead.

On the rear we have got a bigger camera module housing dual cameras, an LED flash, as as opposed to the triple setup on the standard Vivo Y12. Also on the rear is the Vivo branding, which indicates its a Vivo smartphone.

Moving upfront, we have got a 6.51-inch IPS LCD display, which is bigger than the 6.35-inch display on the standard Vivo Y12. This display bears a resolution of 720 x 1600 Pixels and a density of 270 PPI.

Enthusiats who descide to purchase this smartphone, will have two color options, which include Glacier Blue and Phantom Black.

The Cameras

The cameras on the Vivo Y12s aren’t really far fetched from what we got on the standard Vivo Y12, they fall in very similar pedestals, however, the Y12s seems to be a camera less when compared to its sibling.

Instead of bearing triple rear cameras like its sibling, we have got a dual camera setup here, bearing a 13MP primary camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and a 2MP depth camera with an aperture of f/2.4.

Upfront, we have got a single 8MP shooter, which caters for selfies as well as front video recording. This camera bears an an aperture of f/1.8, which is wider than the 8MP selfie camera on the Vivo Y12 with an aperture of f/2.2.

Hardware and Software

The Vivo Y12s takes things up a notch performance wise. It replaces the MediaTek Helio P22 processor on the standard Vivo Y12 with a MediaTek Helio P35 processor, which is geared towards offering an improved performance.

We have also got 3GB and 4GB RAM variants, as opposed to the single 3GB RAM on the standard Y12. Whats more, we have got 32GB of internal storage and a non-removable 5000mAh battery.

On the software side, the Vivo Y12s runs the Funtouch 11 user interface on top of the Android 10 operating system.

Compare Prices

The Vivo Y12s features a 3.5mm jack and a Micro-USB Port. It also features Wi-Fi,  Bluetooth 5.0.

Internet connectivity is capped at 4G. Which means enthusiasts won’t be getting access to 5G internet speed.

Vivo Y12s Price and Availability

Vivo Y12s price in Nigeria starts at around 56,900 Naira. You can buy it for around $150 at leading online stores. The smartphone should cost around 18,500 KHS in Kenya and 900 GHS in Ghana.

The Vivo Y12s was launched and released for purchase on November 16th 2020.
