The Vivo iQOO 8 is a new smartphone announced by Vivo in China. The smartphone is blessed with an attractive body design and parades next-gen E5 displays, SD888+, photochromic version, and also a custom OS.

Vivo iQOO 8

Design and Display

The Vivo iQOO 8 comes with a refreshed design and also maintains the same features as its predecessors. The device has an orange-colored power button found on the iQOO 7 and also has a partnership with BMW for the Legend Edition. It has a new racing edition with a black carbon fiber finish on the back.

It has a premium electrochromic version that can switch from white to bright orange. Overall, the device offers a 6.56-inch FHD+ flat display with a punch hole that has a display of up to 1 billion colors. Further, it features a 120Hz refresh rate, a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, a contrast ratio of 6,000,000:1, apeak brightness of 1200 nits.

Cameras

On the camera setup, the iQOO 8 has a 48MP Sony IMX598 gimbal camera on the back coupled with a 13MP f/2.2 120° ultrawide angle camera and a 13MP f/2.46 portrait camera. The 16MP camera on the front is for selfies and video calls as well. The main camera has Dual-LED dual-tone flash, HDR, panorama, and 4K videos quality.

Hardware and Software

On the hardware, the Vivo iQOO 8 has a Qualcomm SM8350 Snapdragon 888 5G chipset based on a 5nm process node with an octa-core processor clocking at a speed of 1×2.84 GHz with an Adreno 660 graphics card.

It also has LPDRR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Sadly it does not have support for micro SDcard. The handset runs on OriginOS for iQOO, a custom-made version of Vivo’s China-exclusive Android fork. OriginOS comes with a similar widget-based home screen interface available on Vivo phones.

Further, it has an AI subtitle feature that should be similar to Live Caption and another feature called Smart Privacy Protection that helps to prevent third-party apps from accessing private information from both SMS and clipboard.

Battery and Network

The Vivo iQOO 8 has a battery of 4350mAh with support for 120W fast wired charging that promises to charge the phone from empty to full in 18 minutes. There is a VC Liquid Cooling for keeping the temperature down.

It has USB Type-C with a 5G network, NFC, and an under-display fingerprint scanner.

Vivo iQOO 8 price starts at around $586 for the 8GB + 128GB memory and another model with 12GB RAM + 256GB storage for $648.

In Nigeria, the Vivo iQOO 8 will cost 242,000 Naira, about 3,600 Ghs in Ghana, and 65,000 Ksh in Kenya.
