Samsung Gear Fit is a sleek and stylish fitness band with some elements of a smartwatch. Of all the products launched by Samsung at the MWC, 2014, the Gear Fit is perhaps the most exciting. It features a brilliant curved Super AMOLED display that allows for a design that marries your wrist perfectly.
Fitness Band & Smart Watch
Samsung Gear Fit is half fitness band half smartwatch. It is not as sophisticated as the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, but sleek and looks very promising. Unlike the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo that runs on Tizen OS or the first generation Galaxy Gear that runs on Android, the Gear Fit runs on a much simpler operating system the Real Time OS (RTOS) which is more resource efficient and gives it a battery life of 3 to 4 days.
Samsung Gear Fit comes with health and fitness features. It has a heart rate sensor on the back that keeps tracking your heart rate while you exercise and tells you whether to speed up or slow down. It also comes with a Pedometer, accelerometer, and gyroscope.
Unlike the full featured Gear 2 smartwatch it lacks a music player or built-in storage, but you can control music playing on your smartphone with the device. The Gear Fit also lacks a microphone or camera.
Like other smartwatches, the Samsung Gear Fit shows you notifications from your smartphones. You can receive notifications on calls, SMS, emails, and apps directly on the screen of your Gear Fit. The Smart Relay feature allows you open full message when a notification is pushed to your Gear Fit.
Samsung Gear Fit spots a 1.84-inch Curved Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 432 x 128 pixels. It comes with interchangeable straps, enabling you choose from colourful straps in Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey or Wild Orange to express your style and mood at any time. Samsung Gear Fit supports 20 Samsung Galaxy devices including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 family.
Pricing & Availability
Samsung Gear Fit will be available from April about the same time as the Galaxy S5. Samsung has not made the pricing official, but we expect the price to be lower than the Gear 2 Neo smartwatch.
