Design and Display
This high-end smartwatch shows off a solid construction featuring Marine Grade stainless steel with PVD coating and a polished finish. Aside its all-steel build and being about 1 mm thicker, Pebble Time Steel is virtually the same as the Time in terms of design.
It measures about the same in thickness and size as the 42mm Apple Watch. It comes with a leather band or an optional matching stainless steel link band, which attracts about $50 more.
The timepiece also has an always-on, LED-backlit display, which is said to be brighter than the one on its cheaper brother. The screen is non-touch, however.
Pebble Watch OS and Timeline
The Pebble Time Steel is powered by its maker’s Pebble Watch OS, which does a good job but not at the level of Android Wear or Apple Watch. However, Pebble does add new features to the software from time to time. Recent update to the OS now allows users to adjust text size and brightness of the screen.
You have access to more than 8,000 apps in the Pebble app store. Pebble Time Steel’s Timeline interface puts the past, present and future events at your fingertip, allowing easier access to information such as sport scores, calendar event, notifications, breaking news and weather.
Other Features and Capabilities
Pebble Time Steel does fitness tracking as one would expect of this sort of device. It tracks steps taken as well as fitness activities like walking, running, swimming and biking round the clock.
The smartwatch also tracks your sleep automatically. Third-party fitness apps such as Jawbone, Fitocracy and Misfit can be used for tracking. The watch is compatible to both iOS and Android operating systems enabling you to link it to your smartphone for notifications.
There is a microphone that can be used to dictate responses to messages on your smartphone. Pebble Time Steel offers water resistance of up to 30 metres, meaning you can bath or swim with this one on. The battery delivers improved run time estimated at up to 10 days.
Pricing and availability
Pebble Time Steel will costs $249.99. It is not yet available in Nigeria and we currently have no data on pricing and availability for Nigeria. When available, Pebble Time Steel Price in Nigeria is expected to range from N50,000 to N70,000 at launch.
