Huawei Matebook could be viewed as an attempt by its Chinese manufacturer to rub shoulders with heavyweights like Apple and Microsoft in the hybrid device segment. The decently-configured 2-in-1 looks to slug it out with the iPad Pro and Surface Pro tablets, especially the latter. Featuring a stunning design, the slate offers a brilliant display, all-day battery life and 6th-gen Intel Core M processor.
Design and Display
If look was all it took to decide the better hybrid, the Huawei Matebook probably outdoes the Microsoft Surface. It has the same thickness as the iPhone 6 (6.9mm) while weighing 640 grams.
At that weight, it is lighter than both the iPad Pro and Surface Pro 4. The tablet sports an all-metal unibody design with attractively curved edges for comfortable handling.
Huawei MateBook comes with an optional water-resistant keyboard offering a key travel of 1.5mm and a spacious glass trackpad for transforming into a laptop.
The Matebook sports a 12-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,440 pixels for enjoyable wide-angle viewing. The screen supports the use of an optional MatePen, a stylus with an elastomer tip and supporting 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity.
Performance and Operating System
In terms of the innards, the Huawei Matebook is powered by latest Intel Core M processor (up to Core M7) for power-efficient performance. The dual-core CPUs deliver speeds of up to 3.1 GHz and are supported by abundant RAM of up to 8GB capacity.
To further enable fluid performance, zippy solid-state drives of up to 512GB capacity are provided for storage. The Huawei MateBook will run on either the Home or Pro edition of the latest Windows 10 operating system to enable productive experience when using in laptop mode.
The Huawei Matebook features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a fingerprint sensor and dual speakers. It can be bought with an optional MateDock offering two USB ports, an HDMI port, a VGA port and an Ethernet port.
You will only find a USB 3.1 Type-C port, audio jack and keyboard smart cover connector on the slate itself.
Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac MIMO are provided for wireless connectivity. The 33.7Whr battery supplied is said to be capable of supporting about 10 hours of use.
