Pick the row that sounds most like you — here’s the package that fits, and why.

I’m on a tight budget

DStv Padi — ₦4,400

I mainly want live football

DStv Yanga → Compact

Yanga (₦6,000) is the cheapest package with SuperSport Football for selected Premier League, La Liga and Serie A. Move to Compact (₦19,000) for the dedicated SuperSport Premier League HD channel.

A family that watches a bit of everything

DStv Compact — ₦19,000

The best all-round value: 130+ channels across movies, series, kids, news and sport, plus Showmax Originals on DStv Stream. Choose Confam (₦11,000) if you need to trim the budget.

I’m a serious sports fan

DStv Compact Plus — ₦30,000

Adds SuperSport Football Plus, Variety 1, Action and ESPN 2, plus the Champions League — nearly the full sports line-up at a far lower price than Premium.

I want the complete experience

DStv Premium — ₦44,500

Every channel DStv offers — all 38 HD channels, every SuperSport channel, and the top M-Net movie channels. The pick if you don’t want to miss anything.

I don’t want a dish — I’d rather stream

DStv Stream — from ₦6,000

Subscribe online with no decoder or dish, from Yanga up to Premium, and watch on your phone, tablet, smart TV or browser. Padi isn’t available to streaming-only subscribers.

How to Subscribe to DStv

There are two ways to subscribe to DStv. One is the traditional way, which requires installing proprietary hardware (satellite dish and decoder), and the other is a streaming-only DStv Stream subscription with an internet connection and a compatible device like your smartphone, tablet, smart TV, or a browser on your computer or mobile phone.

If you subscribe to DStv through a dish and decoder installation, you can still stream on DStv Stream without additional payment, giving you the best of both worlds.

How to Subscribe to DStv with a Decoder and Satellite Dish

This was the traditional way of subscribing to DStv. It is a great option if unlimited internet access is not available or is expensive in your area.

You require a satellite dish (with a dish kit, LNB, etc), a DStv decoder (HD Zapper Decoder or Explora Decoder), a smart card, and a remote control.

DStv is a pay Satellite TV service, so signals are encrypted. By paying your subscription and slotting your smart card into your decoder, your decoder will be enabled to decode the encrypted digital TV signals.

To install DStv with a dish and decoder, you will have to contact an accredited DStv dealer or installer. Visit the DStv installer page to find one in your city.

Currently, the entry cost of getting DStv is ₦15,000. This includes the cost of the HD zapper decoder, satellite dish, dish kit (installation kit), remote, and one-month free subscription to the Yanga package. If you prefer another package, you can switch, but you will have to pay separately.

Here are the DStv packages for dish and satellite installations and their monthly subscription prices:

  • Padi – ₦4,400
  • Yanga – ₦6,000
  • Confam – ₦11,000
  • Compact – ₦19,000
  • Compact Plus – ₦30,000
  • Premium – ₦44,500

You will pay for installation separately, with installation cost ranging from ₦5,000 to ₦25,000 depending on the configuration. You may also need to buy cables for connecting the dish to the decoder separately.

How to Subscribe to DStv without a Decoder and Satellite Dish

DStv Stream (previously known as DStv Now or DStv App) used to be a complimentary offering for traditional DStv subscribers. That has not changed. What has changed is that DStv now also offers a standalone subscription for DStv Stream.

This means that if you go this route, you can subscribe to DStv without a decoder and satellite dish. All you need is an internet connection and a device that supports the DStv Stream App or a compatible internet browser. This is a great option for cord-cutters.

To subscribe to DStv without a decoder and satellite dish, visit the DStv Stream website, select your package (DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Confam, or Yanga), create your login details (MultiChoice ID), then set up your payment and complete payment.

Here are the packages for standalone DStv Stream subscription and their monthly subscription prices:

  • Yanga – ₦6,000
  • Confam – ₦11,000
  • Compact – ₦19,000
  • Compact Plus – ₦30,000
  • Premium – ₦44,500

You will notice that the DStv Padi package is not available to streaming-only subscribers. You will also notice that there is no difference between the subscription prices for traditional subscribers and streaming-only subscribers.

Once you complete your payment successfully, you can now start streaming your favorite TV show.

You can also catch up with live series and programmes you missed by watching them on the DStv Stream App or website.

How do I pay or renew my DStv subscription?

The easiest way is the MyDStv app or the DStv Self-Service website. Log in with your MultiChoice ID (or surname and smartcard number), tap Pay, and complete payment through Interswitch, PayU, or Smartcash. You can also renew via USSD by dialing *288#, at any DStv outlet, through your bank’s mobile or internet banking, or with apps like OPay, JumiaPay, Paga, and Quickteller. Pay a day or two before your due date to avoid a break in viewing.

How do I check my DStv package and smartcard number?

Your smartcard number is printed on the front of the white smartcard in your decoder, and also appears in your decoder’s System Info or Status menu. To see your active package and expiry date, log in to the MyDStv app or the DStv Self-Service website with your MultiChoice ID.

How do I upgrade my DStv package?

Open the MyDStv app or Self-Service site, tap Change Package, and select the higher package you want. Upgrades take effect immediately after a pro-rated payment; you pay the difference based on the days left in your current cycle, and your expiry date stays the same.

How do I downgrade my DStv package?

Open the MyDStv app or Self-Service site, tap Change Package, and choose the lower package. A downgrade does not take effect right away; you keep your current package until the end of the cycle, and the new, cheaper package starts from your next payment.

How do I clear a DStv error code like E16?

Log in to the MyDStv app or Self-Service website, tap Clear Error, select the code shown on your screen (for example E16), and confirm with your decoder switched on and the smartcard inserted. The error usually clears within a few seconds to a couple of minutes. Most DStv error codes are two- or three-digit numbers preceded by “E”.
