Blackview A53

Design and Display

Although, Blackview is mostly known for its rugged smartphone design, the Blackview A53 is one of their classic built device. It has a simple sleek and modern design, with a a slim profile made of glass front, plastic frame and plastic back. Hence, it measures 164.6 x 76.9 x 9.4 mm and weighs 193 grams. This phone has a matte finish, which gives it a non-reflective and subdued appearance.

On the front of the device, there is a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch at the top for the front-facing camera. it also has thin bezel surrounding the display.

Furthermore, the Blackview A53 display has a standard refresh rate of 60Hz and a brightness level of up to 450 nits, which provides a smooth and fluid viewing experience. This camera setup is very similar to last year Blackview A52 display with slight improvement in the resolution.

On the back, there is a triple-camera module located in the top left corner, along with a LED flash. This camera bump slightly protrude by a millimeter above the body.  There is also Blackview logo at the bottom left corner of the phone. Blackview A53 comes in three superb and fabulous design options, which include Rock Grey, Starry Blue, and Murky Black.

As for the ports, the phone comes with the power button integrated with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and volume button on the right. At the bottom, sits a USB Type-C port from the bottom with a microphone, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and speakers. There is also the dual SIM with memory slot at the left. Overall, the design and build of the A53 is very satisfying.

The A53 has a large 6.5-inch display that comes with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a pixel density of approximately 270 pixels per inch (PPI). The display has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a screen-to-body ratio of around 80.6%, which means the bezels around the display are relatively thick, especially at the bottom.

While this resolution may not be as high as some other smartphones in the same price range, it should still provide decent image quality and sharpness for basic everyday use cases, such as web browsing, social media, and video playback. Additionally, the IPS LCD technology used in the display provides good viewing angles and color reproduction.

Compare to the Blackview A52, the A53 has an improved camera setup. There is now a triple camera on the rear in place of the single rear setup. This includes 12-megapixel wide camera, 2-megapixel depth camera and 2-megapixel macro camera.

The rear camera of the Blackview A53 has several features, including autofocus, digital zoom, HDR, and panorama mode. Therefore, it can capture pictures with decent image quality, even in lowlight condition. It can record videos up to 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). However, this camera setup is relatively basic compared to some other smartphones in the same price range, and may not deliver the highest-quality images or videos.

On the front of the android phone, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera located in a waterdrop notch at the top of the display. The front camera also has several features, including beauty mode and gesture control, which allows users to take selfies with hand gestures.

Hardware and Software

The Blackview A53 is powered by a quad-core Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 processor, which features four Cortex-A53 CPU cores. The cores has a maximum clock speed of 2.0GHz, and is built on a 12nm manufacturing process. It also features 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.

In terms of software, the Blackview A53 runs on Android 12, with Blackview’s own custom Doke OS 3.0 UI on top. The Doke OS 3.0 is designed to be lightweight and user-friendly, with several customization options and features, such as gesture navigation and a one-handed mode.

Additionally, the A53 also features a 5,080 mAh battery, which is relatively large for a budget smartphone and should provide decent battery life. The device supports dual-SIM functionality and comes with a range of connectivity options, including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also support for USB Type-C for transfer and fast charging.
