Design

The Moto Edge 40 Neo offers a sleek and lightweight design that’s sure to appeal to users seeking a comfortable and stylish smartphone. It comes in two options – one with a glass back and another with a vegan leather back.

Surprisingly, the device is not as slippery as many of its counterparts, and it boasts a comfortable form factor, measuring 159.63 × 71.99 × 7.89 mm and weighing 172 grams. It comes with rounded edges and curved display, giving it an air of premium quality that defies its budget-friendly price.

The device’s slim profile and lightweight construction make it incredibly portable and comfortable to use. While it may not exude the same level of luxury as its pricier counterpart, the Edge 40, it impresses with its contrasting metal camera platform and a tastefully centered Motorola logo on the back.

On the front, there is a curved 6.5-inch display with thin bezels on the sides and a small punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera in the top center.

The back of the smartphone houses a rectangular camera module with two large camera cut-outs and an LED flash, along with the iconic Motorola logo. On the right side, you’ll find the volume rockers and power button, ensuring easy access for one-handed use. The left side remains minimal, while the top features Dolby Atmos branding and a microphone. At the bottom, there’s the SIM tray, USB Type-C port, microphone, and the speaker grille.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo also maintains an IP68 rating for dust and water protection, aligning with its premium counterparts in the family.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo features a remarkable 6.5-inch 144Hz pOLED display, with vibrant FHD+ resolution, coupled with DCI-P3 support, DC dimming, and HDR10+ capabilities, these ensures a visual experience that rivals even its more expensive counterparts.

This display has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, which results in an exceptional pixel density of approximately 402 ppi and and 20:9 aspect ratio providing a widescreen format for an enhanced viewing experience. Furthermore, with an impressive peak brightness of 1300 nits, this display guarantees comfortable outdoor visibility, even under the direct glare of sunlight.

The color reproduction on this screen is truly remarkable, delivering rich and vibrant hues, accentuated by deep blacks that elevate the overall quality of the content. The adaptive 144Hz refresh rate not only ensures seamless touch responsiveness but also facilitates fluid animations, enhancing the overall user experience. Moreover, for those concerned about battery life, the flexibility to adjust the refresh rate to 120Hz or 60Hz offers a practical solution.

The display further impresses with its HDR10+ support, ensuring an immersive experience while enjoying movies and games. Although, the Edge 40 Neo doesn’t support Dolby Vision  like the Edge 40 Pro, the presence of the HDR10+ ensures an impressive visual experience.

Camera

The Moto Edge 40 Neo is equipped with a dual camera setup at the back, consisting of a 50MP primary camera with OIS and a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Although, the primary 50MP ultra-pixel camera on the rear might appear to be a downgrade on paper from its predecessor, the 64MP shooter of the Edge 30 Neo but its the same as the standard Edge 40.

The primary camera utilizes the OmniVision OV50A sensor while featuring an f/1.8 aperture lens. This sensor boasts a sizeable 1/1.55” optical format, producing 4-to-1 binned 12.5MP photos with 2.0µm pixel size through a 4-cell design. Meanwhile, the Ultrawide camera is based on a 13MP SK Hynix HI1336 sensor featuring f/2.2 aperture, 1.12µm individual pixels and a 1/3″ optical format.

For selfies, the Edge 40 Neo employs the uses the OmniVision OV32B sensor with 32MP lens. This camera comes with a 1/3″ optical format and a 0.7µm pixel size with quad-pixel tech that more than suffices for casual selfies and video calls.

For video coverage, the cameras support up to 4K video recording at 30fps and 1080p video recording at up to 60fps. The camera app includes features like night mode, pro mode, panorama, slow-motion video and more.

Underneath its sleek exterior, the Motorola Edge 40 Neo is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7030 SoC, a cutting-edge 6nm mid-range chipset  integrated with 5G capabilities. This SoC is equipped with a robust configuration, boasting two high-performance Cortex-A78 cores and six efficient Cortex-A55 cores. The use of the 6nm manufacturing process ensures that the device delivers seamless performance while optimizing energy efficiency.

The chipset is also couple with Mali-G610 MC3 GPU. This GPU enhances the visual experience, offering smooth graphics and vivid imagery. For multitasking and app handling, the device is backed by a generous 8GB of RAM and an optional 12GB of RAM, ensuring responsive performance in various scenarios.
