Huawei Mate X3 is the company’s latest foldable smartphone succeeding the Huawei Mate X2 released in early 2021. It sports a lightweight and slim design with Powerful camera system, big main display, and impressive hardware that rivals top foldable such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Google Pixel Fold.

Design

Huawei Mate X3 has the lightest book-style foldable design that turn to an original flagship phone when folded just like Oppo Find N2. This slim foldable phone, measures just 156.9 x 141.5 x 5.3 mm when unfolded and 156.9 x 72.4 x 11.1 mm when folded. Thanks to the material used the smartphone weighs about 241g.

Furthermore, the Huawei Mate X3 has an engineered hinge system, that allows it to close completely flat with minimal gaps, thus resulting in a practically crease-free inner display. The improved hinge system allows for a near-seamless closure when folded, providing enhanced protection against dust and debris.

Additionally, this Mate X3 has a dual display. While folded there is a 6.4-inch quad-curved external screen and large 7.85-inch internal display. Both display has a punch hole at the top of the display which holds the front facing camera.

The highlight of the Huawei Mate X3 is its camera module located on the rear panel. The circular housing serves as both a design statement and a practical house for the triple rear camera.

Additionally, like its exterior counterpart, the display has an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate that elevates the Mate X3’s display into a realm of fluidity, ensuring an effortlessly responsive interface.  While not officially certified for HDR content, the screen holds its own, offering a vivid color spectrum and solid brightness.

Though the inner display offers slightly lower increments for refresh rate adjustment—60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz—it’s an aspect hardly noticeable to the naked eye. Camera

The Huawei Mate X3 packs a triple rear camera including a 50MP Ultra Vision main camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 13MP ultra-wide angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with f/3.4 aperture that can do 5x optical zoom.

The primary 50MP camera, utilizing the Sony IMX766 sensor, while featuring a Quad-Bayer arrangement and a RYYB pixel configuration within a 1/1.56″ sensor thus providing decent image quality. It also supports optical image stabilization (OIS), phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), and laser autofocus, which enables it captures moments with clarity and precision, even in challenging conditions.

The periscope telephoto camera is powered by the Sony IMX351 sensor, presenting a 16MP native resolution, though it operates at 12MP for superior image quality. It has a sensor size of 1/3.09″ and 1.0 µm pixels, while utilizing the RYYB configuration, thus delivering exceptional results even at 5x optical zoom. This camera also features a rarefied f/3.4 lens, bringing distant subjects closer while maintaining OIS and PDAF.

Complementing the primary and periscope lenses is a 13MP ultrawide camera, employing the Sony IMX688 sensor and autofocus technology. It operates behind an f/2.2 lens to captures expansive scenes with clarity, to bring valuable perspective to the photography repertoire.

Furthermore, video recording maxes out at 4k@60fps. There is no 8K @ 24fps here but not really a big deal, the 4k resolution captures detailed video recording.
