MTN HyNet is a broadband internet service from MTN Nigeria that offers users blazing-fast browsing and downloading speeds. It provides subscribed customers with enhanced broadband access to make download of large files and online video streaming seamless.
MTN HyNet Overview
This high-speed Internet service is a prepaid offering, even though it is mainly targeted at small and medium-scale businesses. It offers super-fast, broadband Internet connectivity to multiple users at the same time.
It is ideal for businesses with large data download or large media streaming needs which regular internet service may not be able or fast enough to handle. MTN HyNet – on some plans – removes download restrictions to allow you and your staff to download as many useful files as you want without being charged an extra fee.
The broadband service is powered over the WiMAX network of MTN which covers some Nigerian cities. Coverage areas include Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Sokoto, Warri, Ilorin, Bauchi, Oshogbo and Makurdi.
However, note that all locations in the above mensioned cities are not covered by MTN’s WiMax. So, contact MTN to be sure whether your location in the city is covered.
MTN HyNet was recently upgraded to 4G LTE standard to deliver faster speeds, but the enhanced broadband internet service has only been rolled out in limited areas in Lagos for now and is expected to be available in the other HyNet cities soon.
MTN HyNet offers you ability to make VoIP to VoIP calls for free and to other lines for as little as N4.4 per minute without paying any monthly access fee. The process of setting up is easy and does not require installation of software.
The high-speed broadband internet service offers you the freedom of choosing your preferred bandwidth/speed and there are different types of plans to suit different levels of usage.
How to Get on MTN HyNet
Signing up for MTN HyNet is easy. You only need to visit your nearest MTN Walk-In Centre and confirm if the area where you intend using the internet service falls within its broadband coverage area.
You will then have to complete an MTN HyNet Order Form and provide all necessary documents once your area is confirmed to fall within a coverage area. Make necessary payments and you are provided with an indoor or outdoor Wi-Fi-enabled modem – your choice – which is all you need to get going.
The indoor modem is Plug ‘n’ Play and requires no expert, but the outdoor modem may need to be installed by an MTN engineer. However, the upgraded broadband service currently available only in Lagos uses new LTE-enabled devices, which modem users can make a swap for.
Broadband Service Plans
MTN HyNet is offered in monthly and time-based packages. The monthly plans, which offer 24/7 internet access, range from N4,000 (2GB data cap) to N28,000 (20GB data cap) with speed of up to 2 Mbps.
The unlimited monthly plans go for N35,000 (speed capped at 1 Mbps) and N52,700 (speed capped at 2 Mbps). For the time-based plan, you pay N22,000 to access the Net 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Monday to Friday and round the clock on weekends. Learn more
