Glo was one of the four mobile companies to successfully acquire 3G licenses last year in the country. The other three companies were MTN, Celtel wireless and Alheri Engineering.

3G plus will provide cutting edge high speed data services to Subscribers. Some of the services include video calls, mobile TV, video on demand and high speed internet via the company’s state of the art High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA). HSDPA is a 3.5G technology and an evolution of the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) 3G technology. HSDPA promises faster data download speed, up to 3.6Mbps.

3G plus, offers Glo subscribers video streaming services. This will enable mobile TV with channels like CNN and Silverbird TV already available. Video streaming will also enable a service like Video on demand with clips from Hollywood and Nollywood already available. Also available on the video on demand service are comedy, Sports and music clips.

To access mobile TV logon to Glo 3G video portal via http: cms.gloworld.com. Subscribers will access mobile TV at the cost of 7 kobo/KB.

Browsing the internet is also faster on the Glo 3G plus. The Service supports HSDPA high speed internet which offers browsing speed of up to 3.6Mbps. HSDPA high speed internet can be accessed at a special promotional price of 30,000 Naira. The price includes the cost of the HSDPA data card, one month rental and your monthly deposit.

In subsequent months the subscriber to the HSDPA service will pay 15,000 Naira to retain the service. Subscribers get unlimited access to the internet of up to 3GB per month. You logon to internet via the ‘Glo Direct” access point.

The HSDPA high speed internet service can also be accessed on a pay as you browse plan. Peak period charge according to Glo is 35 kobo/KB while off peak charge is 20 kobo/KB.

Glo 3G plus offers video call services. This service will enable subscribers
to make calls in audio and video. Making video calls is no different from making voice calls you only need a camera phone. Glo mobile currently offer video calls at 1 Naira/second for the first month of using the service

However, to access 3G you need at least a 3G phone, but to access cutting edge services like the HSDPA high speed internet you need a 3.5G mobile phone like the Samsung G800. In addition you must be under Glo 3G plus coverage to access the service.

Presently, Glo 3G plus is only available in most parts of Lagos with Abuja and Port Harcourt following soon. The service will get to other major cities in the country afterwards.

To use any of the services enumerated above you must first activate 3G plus. The step is simple:

SMS “activate” to 444, you will receive you 3G settings within 24 hours

Save the settings received on your 3G or 3.5G phone.

Once this is done, you can now use any of the 3G plus services.

3G phones, 3.5G phones, and all accessories required to make the best of 3G plus are all available at Glo world outlets throughout the country. You can also buy these items in most mobile phone shops Nationwide. Remember to buy all products from accredited dealers/distributors.
