The Design
Ordinarily, plastic is considered a poor material to be used for the body of a device, but not in the case of the Alcatel Pixi 3 (8). The plastic used has a nice feel to it and users should not have issues gripping the device comfortably.
The 9.2mm-thick tablet sports cool curved edges to make it fit nicely into your hand. There are no physical control buttons, safe for the power and volume control buttons on the side of the slate.
Display and Camera
As you might have already guessed, the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 (8) packs an 8-inch display, which has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and boasts decent viewing angles. The TFT panel has a pixel density of 189 pixels per inch.
Alcatel Pixi 3 (8) tablet is equipped with a meagre rear camera of 2 megapixels – with no flash. On the front of the slate is a VGA camera for whatever it is useful for.
Hardware, Software and Specifications
The Alcatel Pixi 3 (8) is driven by a dual-core MediaTek MT8312 chip with ARM Cortex-A7 cores. The processor is clocked at 1.3GHz and backed by 512MB or 1GB of RAM. A Mali-400 GPU takes care of graphics on the slate. Alcatel Pixi 3 (8) runs on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.
The inexpensive tablet has onboard storage of 4GB, extendable via a microSD slot, and is supplied with a powerful 3240mAh battery. Connectivity means include Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n as well as over-the-air (OTA) sync and tethering. It supports 3G connectivity and GPS with A-GPS.
Alcatel Pixi 3 (8) has a price tag of around $140 and is expected to ship to Europe, Latin America, Africa and Middle East starting from May.
